Jungle Sensory Bin
My favorite theme as a child in school was the Rainforest and Jungle. I have fond memories of walking into a decorated room with a huge paper tree, animals we crafted and fun activities around the room. I want to recreate the fun I had for my kids, in my own way, and give them something fun to remember while learning about the rainforest. First up, this awesome Jungle Sensory Bin!
You will need:
Rice
Food Coloring
Water Beads
Stones
Animal Figurines – I bought this awesome Jungle Animal Figurine set and my kids LOVE them. It encourages imaginative play with fences and trees to make your own wildlife refuge. The figurines are made with quality and worked perfectly for our Jungle Sensory Bin. I will definitely be ordering the ocean set for an ocean theme!
Wooden Letters (optional)
I set this sensory bin up in our Flisat Table.
For the grass, I made colored rice with 3 different green colors and some yellow. The moss green color was the majority, then kelly green and leaf green.
**Here is a super easy tutorial for colored rice that really brings out a bright color. **
The water is blue and clear water beads.
I set up the first bin with Wild Animals Snap Shot book. As the kids played with their bins, I read to them about the animals. This is a great book to introduce wild animals and learn a quick fact about them. The large, colorful pictures make it very appealing to a younger crowd.
I set up the second bin with If Your Dreams Take Off and Fly by John Butler. This is one of my favorite books and has a whole page with jungle animals. The book talks about visiting beautiful places around the world and seeing the spectacular animals that live there.
The kids played with the figurines for a few hours, playing out different scenarios and feeding the animals.
I think this was an awesome start to our Rainforest and Jungle theme. Perfect for hands on fun and learning.
