Zingo – A Gameschooling Review From A Homeschooling Mom
Zingo is a fun bingo game mixed with a cool “zinger” to deliver the pieces. The directions are very easy to follow which allows children to be able to play this game independently. My kids love playing Zingo together.
Gameschool:
- Sight Words
- Good Practice For Beginner Readers
- Matching
- Healthy Competition
- Reading Not Required
Players: 2-7
Ages: 4+
Game Time: 10-20 min
Who We Play With: The whole family enjoys Zingo.
How To Play
Set Up
Mix up the tiles and load them into the zinger.
Each player chooses a game board.
Select game board difficulty. Green is easy with less competition over tiles. Red is more difficult with more shared images. You must react quicker to claim tiles on the red side. Every player should play on the same level.
Game Play
You can choose a dealer as the person to handle the zinger throughout the game or you can pass the zinger so each player has a turn to slide it.
Slide the zinger forward and backward to reveal 2 tiles.
When a player sees a tile that matches an image on their board, they call out the name of the tile, take the tile and place it over the matching image on their board. The first person to call out the tile gets the tile. If there is a tie, the tile is placed back in the zinger.
Educational Variations
We like to also say the letter the word starts with and it’s sound.
For beginner readers, you can choose to slide the zinger slowly to only reveal the word and not the image. Then the players have to read the word and match it to the word on their board.
Determining A Winner
The first player that fills their board with tiles and announces “ZINGO!” wins!
Would we play this again?
Yes! Zingo is a quick and enjoyable game to play with family and friends. It has many educational benefits for children.
