Valentine’s Day Suncatcher Craft

Valentine’s Day is in a few days! The kids and I decorated their room with lots of crafts. My favorite, this adorable Valentine’s Day Suncatcher Garland!

You will need:
Contact Paper
Construction Paper
Scissors
Embellishments – we used sequins, hole punched dots, tissue paper hearts and glitter.

Instructions

  • Start by cutting hearts out of construction paper.

*Tip* It’s easiest to create a perfect heart by folding the paper in half and cutting a half heart shape along the folded side of the paper.

  • Fold the heart in half and cut another heart shape along the folded edge, a bit smaller than the first heart. This will give you the heart shaped outline pictured above. It also creates smaller construction paper hearts that we added to our garland.

  • Using one of your outline hearts, trace the heart onto the contact paper backing and cut it out. Stick the contact paper to the heart outline.

Now you should have a construction paper heart with a sticky contact paper center to decorate!

For embellishments, I cut small hearts out of tissue paper, hole punched construction paper and used sequins. The kids sprinkled glitter on as a final touch.

One suggestion – If working with younger children or impatient kids, cut the hearts and contact paper beforehand. It can be a bit tough for the littles to cut these and it does take a minute to get everything ready (speaking from experience, ha).

When they finished decorating, we taped our Valentine’s Day Suncatchers to yarn and hung them in the window! This was a super fun afternoon craft for the kids.
