Sorting Colors With Blocks And Buckets

Garen is obsessed with these blocks. Whether it’s to stack or throw them, he screams when I get them out. I thought if I introduced colors with his favorite blocks and these buckets that I bought for our Spongebob Party, that maybe he would catch on. And he sure did!

It started with the usual double handed digging. The shovels were a bit too challenging for him to actually get into the bucket. He had fun trying though and that’s what this was all about! Developing fine motor skills.

Since we were introducing colors, I focused on Blue. I didn’t want to overwhelm him and have him remember nothing. Instead of pointing out each color, I would say “Is that blue? No, that’s red. Find me a blue block.” I asked for blue over and over and he finally started bringing me blue blocks!

More digging

And then, of course, dumping!

This is a great activity for little ones to start learning colors and developing those fine motor skills. Start with one color and move on to another when they get the hang of it. If your little one starts to get bored, show them how to stack the blocks and knock it down. Then, sort the fallen blocks! Knocking blocks down is definitely Garen’s favorite activity of all time.
