Decorating Playdough With Beads

Toddlers love small things they can sort, dump and sort again. We have a bin full of different shaped beads. Ahria likes to sort them in her play kitchen pans. Big ones in one, small ones in another or just by color. Today, we took a few of our playdoughs that had been mixed with multiple colors and she decorated them with beads.

I didn’t actually lead this in any way. I just put it all in front of her and watched. Playdough is great for quiet time. I find the squeezing and shaping to be very calming.

Her favorite beads to push in were definitely the noodle shaped ones. The different shaped beads stimulate curiosity and creativity. This is a great activity to improve fine motor skills.

This was our first time trying beads with playdough. She loved it so we will definitely be doing this again soon. I think adding pipe cleaners to the mix would be an interesting idea!
