Paper Weaved Placemat

Get the kids excited for Thanksgiving with this fun and easy Paper Weaved Placemat craft! Kids will love weaving together colorful strips of paper to create their very own placemats, making them feel proud of their contribution to the holiday décor. Plus, it’s a simple craft that helps develop fine motor skills and creativity—perfect for getting into the festive spirit and adding a personal touch to your Thanksgiving table!

Instructions

Start by picking a color for the base of the placemat. Lay the paper horizontally in front of you, the long side on the bottom.

Make a line on each side, 1 inch from the edge.

Turn the paper vertically, short end on the bottom. Use the ruler to make straight lines, 1 inch apart. Here’s a perfect opportunity to practice measuring!

Fold the paper in half and cut along the lines up to the line across. Don’t cut the horizontal line!

Using 1 inch strips of paper, gently weave the strip through the paper. Push each strip against the last so the weave is tight.

Once the strip is in the right position, glue the end so it doesn’t move.

When you finish, you can laminate them and use them again and again!

You can also try zig-zag lines to create different patterns. It’s a bit more of a challenge too!
