Paper Plate Snail

It’s the first week of spring and we are so excited to be outside! We spent the weekend at our property learning about bogs, woodchucks and otters. We brought our I Sense Spring worksheets with us and used our 5 senses to discover signs of spring. Today, we went to the park and found tons of snail shells (and a snake)! We took a few shells home and studied them before making these adorable Paper Plate Snails.

I made these in 2 different ways. I made mine with a printed template and colored it in with markers. The kids made theirs by tracing the template onto green construction paper and cutting it out. Both turned out really cute!

You will need:
Paper Plate
Paint or Kwik Stix or Markers
Paint Brush
Construction Paper or a printed template
Googly Eyes – optional

First, paint your paper plates! The kids picked their favorite colors.

When you finish painting, use your finger to create a swirl – just like a snail shell!

Cut out your template. You can either color it the way it is or use it to trace onto green construction paper. We added googly eyes for a silly touch!

Don’t forget to add a little smile!

The kids played with their snails as I read them the book Are You A Snail?. This is a descriptive book about snails and a great addition to your snail studies! There are lots of facts as well as a captivating, silly story.
