Paper Bag Teepee

We went to the farmers market last week and the kids got to walk through giant teepees. It sparked their interest so over the weekend we made our own teepees out of brown paper bags. My daughter loved this craft so much that she has since made a whole teepee village along with a light house (a decorated, upside down bag with a flashlight in it).

Start by drawing your door. Make a triangle in the center of the bottom of the bag.

Decorate your bag with the opening at the top. The top couple inches will be cut into a fringe so keep that in mind as you decorate the top.

We used this pictograph from memrise to refer to while drawing our Native American symbols. Click the picture to download and print.

I also googled a few pictures of teepees and drew a few different line designs – zig zags, solid lines with dots, triangles, etc. to give them some ideas.

When you finish decorating, fringe the top of the bag.

Open the bag up and cut the door leaving the right side of the triangle intact so the door opens and closes.

Gather the top of the bag and tie it together.
