Invitation to Craft – Butterflies

Here’s a great craft for littles to create their own butterflies. These butterflies are great for developing fine motor and art skills while inspiring creativity. They were a bit more challenging than our Turkeys but Miss 4 really enjoyed making them.

You will need:
Construction Paper

Glue Stick
Scissors
Pipe Cleaners

Googly Eyes
(self-adhesive are my favorite!)
Pink or Red marker
Other decorations you’d like (We used sequin)

Use half sheets of blue, purple, black and orange construction paper for the background.

Cut a handful of circles, stars, hearts and triangles. I used the scraps from the wings.

Cut pipe cleaners about 1.5 inches long and roll the ends. I rolled some and left some straight.

Grab some sequin or whatever other decorations you’d like. Sparkle glue would be a good idea!

Lastly, you need to cut large and small wings, circles for the head and long ovals for the body.

Here’s a template if you prefer tracing and cutting:

Once everything is cut, let your little one get to work!

We usually put the glue on the back of the piece we are gluing on. This was a good project to show that sometimes, when you use small pieces like sequin, you have to put the glue on first. We talked about this while doing the sprinkles on our Ice Cream Cones too.

Miss 4 decided to color all over her butterflies. I guess this is her creative flair. Who am I to stop her, right?
