Fizzy Bomb Pop Craft – Fail?
I was really excited to do a 4th of July craft with the kids but couldn’t decide what to do. Then I found out something awesome… Did you know June 30th is National Bomb Pop Day?! Neither did I! But now that I knew, we obviously had to celebrate. I was thinking fireworks, sparkles, fizzy so we attempted a fizzy bomb pop craft and well, here’s how it went…
I saw a post on Pinterest that said if you mix acrylic paint with baking soda and spray it with vinegar, that it will fizz. So..
We got our materials.
My favorite Acrylic Paint
Baking Soda
Paint Brushes
Paper Plates

Vinegar
Spray Bottles
Spoon
We mixed the baking soda and paint. We put enough baking soda in so the paint was more like a paste. Then the kids painted their bomb pops. They experimented with a smooth flat amount of paint and more bumpy, globby paint.
We let them dry overnight.
In the morning, we sprayed our bomb pops with vinegar. Now, if you’ve ever played with baking soda and vinegar like we did with our Fizzing Colors Experiment, you know that it fizzes up and looks really cool. These didn’t compare. Obviously, the paint dried and sealed in the baking soda which didn’t allow the vinegar to work. Booo.
I mean, if you zoom in close it worked a little!
Either way, the kids had a blast painting their bomb pops. The baking soda made a cool, sandy texture to the paint. I wonder if tempura paint would have worked better. We will have to try again. Let me know if you have any ideas in the comments below!
