Christmas Tree Cards
Cards are not my thing, at least not the $5 Hallmarks at walmart, but a handmade card from the kids is special! Both babes loved joining in on this craft and sending them out to family. These are super easy to make and I they turned out perfect!!
You will need:
Cardstock
Cookie Cutter or template
Paint
Scissors
Glue Stick
Paper Cutter 5 in 1
Don’t have a Christmas tree cookie cutter? I’ve got you covered! Just print this template on cardstock and start painting!
6 Christmas Tree Template
Trace the cookie cutter (or print the template) onto a sheet of cardstock. We did 6 cards, so 6 trees.
Paint the trees! Miss 4 wanted to do finger-paints. A sponge texture would look really cool too.
I have so many old playdough containers that I’ve been trying to find uses for. The tops were perfect for holding a bit of paint.
We used Handy Art Masters Tempera Paint. I have a love hate relationship with this paint. It’s GREAT for finger-painting, for projects that I don’t really care how they look in the end and they are very easy to clean – but the colors are a bit lackluster. They don’t have the greatest coverage and often you can see through them. For this project though, I actually welcomed some transparency. It made the trees look bright!
Once you’ve painted the trees, cut them out. If you used a thinner paint, you can still see the outline pretty good. If not, you may need to retrace your tree over the paint with a marker.
For the cards, I used 8.5×11 cardstock. I cut them in half longways and then folded each half piece in half. I used this awesome 5-in-1 Paper Cutter to cut the straight lines and score the cards so they folded in half nicely.
Now that you have your cards and trees ready, you can glue each tree to the front of the card. Mr.1 had fun using the glue stick and slapping the trees on.
I just love how these turned out! They have a simple look to them (until we dazzled them up with stickers) while still being a special craft from the kids.
Miss 4 added some fancy 3D Christmas Stickers from her Make Believe Ideas Christmas Cheer craft book to jazz up her trees. We wrote a little note in each card and a big MERRY CHRISTMAS! She was so excited to put them in the mail. Everyone loved that she signed her own name.
