Boggle Junior Review – The Best Beginner Spelling Game

Boggle Junior is a wonderful game for practicing reading, spelling and letter sounds. We have the wooden montessori version of Boggle Junior but it is exactly the same gameplay. Sound and spell out words with the letter dice.

Gameschool:

  • Letter recognition
  • Letter sounds
  • Matching
  • Spelling
  • Reading
  • Great for beginner readers
  • Reading not required

Players: 1-2
Ages: 3+
Game Time: 10 min

Who We Play With: This is a great game for young children. Children can play independently but having an adult present would be beneficial, especially when learning letter sounds.

3 versions of Boggle Junior on Amazon:

How To Play

Set Up

Place a card in the card slot. This will hide the letters. Put the dice in front of you on the table. You can start with 3 letter words and move up to 4 letter words.

Game Play

Sound out the word and place the letter dice in the correct order.

Determining A Winner (2 player version)

When played as a 2 player game, if you correctly complete the word, keep the card. Take turns spelling out words. When all cards are gone, whoever has the most cards wins.

Advanced

Use a timer or sand timer to time the player completing the word. If they run out of time, it’s the next players turn.

Easier

Place the card face up in front of you. Match the letters as you say the letter sounds.

Would we play this game again?

Yes. My kids enjoy playing Boggle Junior together. It is great to see them working on spelling and reading as well as having fun!
