Paper Tube & Popsicle Stick Helicopter Craft

My son has been super excited about an upcoming airshow with my stepdad and he wanted to surprise him with a helicopter craft. We used a few craft supplies that we already had on hand and he got to practice using the hot glue gun.

You will need:
1 Cardboard Tube
2 Large Popsicle Sticks
2 Small Popsicle Sticks or you can use Mini Popsicle Sticks
1 Pony Bead
2 Pipe Cleaners
1 Foam Sheet

Instructions:

1. Start by painting the cardboard tube, and popsicle sticks. We love using Kwik Stix for projects like this. They are no mess and dry quickly so we don’t have to wait too long to continue our craft.

2. Cut a small triangle out of foam and round the top point. This will create the wing for the front of the plane.

3. Hot glue one side of the cardboard tube together.

4. Poke 2 holes in the open side of the cardboard tube. These will be the holes that hold the pipe cleaner landing gear in place.

5. Roll the ends of the pipe cleaners into spirals to create the landing gear wheels. Push the end of the pipe cleaners through the holes you made in the cardboard tube and fold them over so they stay in place.

6. Hot glue the foam wing onto the front near the open end.

7. Behind the foam wing, hot glue one of the large popsicle sticks. Glue the second large popsicle sticks to the bottom, directly underneath the other.

8. Hot glue the small popsicle sticks to form an X. This will create the propeller. Then, hot glue the propeller to the closed end of the cardboard tube.
