Turtle Frenzy – A Math Game
Looking for a fun way to practice addition and subtraction? Turtle Frenzy is it! Make your way through the sand by adding and subtracting dice. Watch out for the predators who send you back to your nest. First turtle to the ocean wins!
How to play:
The first player rolls 2 dice. Arrange the dice so the bigger number is first. Whatever the sum or difference is of those 2 numbers is where the turtles can move. For example, Player 1 rolls a 5 and 3. 5+3=8 and 5-3=2. Each player now moves their turtle to an adjacent spot IF the spot is an 8 or 2. This is done one at a time, starting with the player that rolled, in clockwise order. The next player rolls.
Turtle Slide: You can chain touching spaces together if they are the same number. For example, if you are moving to a 4 space and that space has 2 more spaces with the same number touching it, you may slide your turtle to the end of the chain.
After 4 turns have been taken, spin the spinner! A predator attacks whichever color it lands on. All turtles on that color space go back to the nest.
If a turtle lands on the same space of another turtle, the turtle that was jumped on goes back to start.
Play continues until a turtle is on the last space before the water. If someone rolls a sum or difference of 6, the turtle can enter the water and that player wins! For a longer variation of the game, require all 3 turtles to get to the water to win.
Brass fastener – optional.
Assembling the spinner:
Cut out the spinner.
Push the brass fastener part of the way through the spinner.
Open the prongs to secure it. You want the fastener to stick up above the spinner.
Hook a paper clip on the fastener.
