Pirate Birthday Party

Since our last name is Hook, we thought it would be fitting to have a pirate themed party for Garen’s first birthday. It was a blast! The planning started with invitations. I wanted something unique so I made up a special design. I think they turned out really cool!

My father-in-law made some awesome DIY decorations. He made a ring toss game with pirate hooks out of a pallet and a large wooden red X for the front lawn which accompanied the treasure chest and Captain’s wheel.

He made this amazing stand for our pirate flag prop.

My in-laws had a really cool, old chest and cannon that were previously used as decor in their house. It worked great for our photo area! We added in some treasure, a Captain’s Wheel, Garen’s pirate themed first birthday chalkboard and Skeleton Jack Sparrow as the finishing touch!

Since we were dressing as pirates, we needed pirate names! I made this Pirate Name Game and Tags for the party. It gave everyone something fun to talk about and laugh over. I set it up right next to the food table to make sure everyone saw it! Garen’s name was Tiny Bones, the perfect name for a small pirate! Tinkerbell and Peter Pan even showed up sporting name tags.

I made the most delicious skull and crossbones rice krispies from this recipe and this cookie cutter. I melted chocolate for the eyes and white chocolate for the bones. Everyone loved them! My mother-in-law made pistachio and chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. I think the display looked amazing!

This party took a lot of planning and setting up! We made Pirate Patties (Hamburgers), Sea Dogs (Hot Dogs), Hook’s Hot Sauce, Cursed Crispies (Rice Krispies), Captain’s Cakes (Cupcakes) and a few others.

Overall, it was a great success. Everyone had fun pARRtying and celebrating Garen’s first birthday.
