5 Great Educational Gifts For 5 Year Olds

I’ve been stocking up on some educational toys for Miss 5. She really enjoys the challenge they provide. I notice that she spends a lot more time playing with her counting or spelling toys than she does with her other toys. I stumbled upon a few Awesome Educational Gifts so I made this list to share with you!

1. Intelligence Sticks

This set comes with 2 of each number, 12 sticks per color and 1 of each mathematical tile – perfect for introducing addition and subtraction (we haven’t started multiplication or division yet). It gives Miss 5 something to physically see and touch to better understand. This kit is a great learning tool. Miss 5 likes me to set up an equation and see if she can finish it before I get back in the room. She’s getting really good at it! Here’s a video of when she first started using Intelligence Sticks.

2. 1-100 Wooden Board And Number Tiles

This is Miss 5’s favorite “toy.” She will sit for hours doing this and I’m NOT exaggerating! She can recognize all numbers to 100 and say their names. We are now working on counting by 2s, 10s and odd and even numbers. This is a wonderful tool for learning numbers.

3. Spelling Blocks Game

Looking for a great tool for introducing spelling? This is it! We take this everywhere with us. It’s easy to travel with and also a great at home teaching resource. Miss 5 is learning to sound out each letter to read the cards. Once she is able to sound it out, we stick it in the back slip so she can’t see the letters. Then, she tries to spell the word without seeing it. The cards are great flash cards too!

4. Phonetic Reading Blocks

Another great educational resource that is easy to travel with. These reading blocks are perfect for beginner readers. The blocks turn to make new words. We make a word, sound it out and then Miss 5 writes it down on lined paper. We love this 1 inch lined paper pad for learning to write.

5. Clock Learning Set

We LOVE this clock learning set. Miss 5 gets a time card and has to change the clock to the correct time, then find the matching puzzle piece. There is so much to do with this kit which is why I love it so much! There are schedule cards that you can write the time on with a dry erase marker and dice to roll and write the time on the clock. Miss 5 is recognizing all quarter times now and working on minutes. This is a great resource for introducing time.

These are 5 Awesome Educational Toys you can feel good about buying as a gift for your kids. Perfect for birthdays and Christmas!
